Shoe Conversations; or, what the Lady’s Magazine Stitch Off taught me about eighteenth-century footwear, embroidery, and community.
This was a blog entry I wrote for the University of Kent Lady’s Magazine Project Stitch-Off. It was so much fun to write and it got me thinking about how people used embroidery patterns on shoes in the eighteenth and early nineteenth century. It also led me to discover a stitched pair of shoes in the V&A Museum that used the very pattern I did! Pretty cool stuff.
